External bodies

There are a number of organisations involved in Queensland workers’ compensation, other than WorkCover. Below are some useful links to related organisations.

Comcare Australia

Comcare is a statutory authority responsible for workers’ compensation, rehabilitation, and occupational health and safety issues for federal government departments and their employees. Comcare does not operate under Queensland’s workers’ compensation scheme; it reports to the Commonwealth Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations.

Q-COMP

Q-COMP is the workers’ compensation regulatory authority. Their primary function is to regulate the workers’ compensation scheme under the Workers’ Compensation and Rehabilitation Act 2003. Here you will find scheme-wide statistics and information about legislation and amendments.

Queensland Department of Industrial Relations

WorkCover is a Queensland Government owned statutory authority and our board reports to the Minister for Employment, Training and Industrial Relations.

Workplace Health and Safety

WorkCover in Queensland is slightly different to models in some other Australian states. Importantly in Queensland, WorkCover is responsible for workers’ compensation insurance and is governed by the Workers’ Compensation and Rehabilitation Act 2003. Workplace Health and Safety Queensland is a separate part of the Queensland Government, governed by the Workplace Health and Safety Act 1995. Both WorkCover and Workplace Health and Safety Queensland report to the same Minister and consult with one another, but their responsibilities and operations are different and separate.

Office of the Queensland Parliamentary Council

The Office of the Queensland Parliamentary Counsel (OQPC) is responsible for drafting all Queensland Acts, and subordinate legislation made under most Queensland Acts. This web site contains the Queensland legislation database created and maintained by OQPC since 1991.

Australian WorkCover authorities

WorkCover Queensland is a Queensland government owned statutory authority, operating as an independent, commercial enterprise. WorkCover Queensland is independent of any other WorkCover authority.
