Compliance activity
WorkCover Queensland strives to maintain and protect the Queensland workers' compensation scheme for the benefit of genuine claimants and policyholders. Our dedicated premium compliance team audit existing policyholders and potential uninsured employers to make sure Queensland employers are paying their fair share.
Policyholders
We conduct wage audits to confirm that existing policyholders correctly declare wages for all workers. We also check that the WorkCover Industry Classification is correct.
We select employers at random for wage audits. The audit can be completed at a WorkCover Queensland office or at the employer’s premises.
Uninsured activity
Section 366 of the Workers' Compensation and Rehabilitation Act 2003, gives WorkCover Queensland the right to conduct random on-site investigations and inspections of Queensland employers to determine if they have a current workers' compensation policy.
Section 518 of the legislation gives the authority for a compliance officer to enter a workplace unannounced. It is a legislative requirement that any employee representing WorkCover Queensland holds the following documentation:
‘s372 Authorised person’s identity card
(1) The Authority must give an identity card to each authorised person.
(2) The identity card must-
(a) contain a recent photograph of the authorised person; and
(b) be signed by the authorised person; and
(c) identify the person as an authorised person for the Authority; and
(d) include an expiry date; and
(e) be signed by the Authority’s chief executive officer.’
To help detect uninsured activity, we also conduct data matching with a number of external sources, as well as investigate anonymous tip offs from the general public.
