Paying own claims costs
WorkCover Queensland is responsible for paying workers’ compensation benefits to injured workers.
Penalties will be applied if an employer is found to be paying their own workers’ compensation claims. An employer may make initial payments to workers before the claim is accepted only if:
- the worker has lodged a WorkCover Queensland claim and
- the employer has lodged an Employer’s Report form with WorkCover Queensland within eight business days.
The penalties may be imposed if employers pay compensation in any other circumstances. WorkCover Queensland will reimburse the employer for the initial payments if the claim is accepted.
