Artificial intelligence use at WorkCover Queensland

WorkCover Queensland (WorkCover) is exploring and using artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to help our people work more efficiently and improve the services we provide to Queensland workers and employers.

We are committed to using AI responsibly, safely, and transparently. Our use of AI aligns with WorkCover policies, privacy obligations, information security requirements, public records obligations and relevant Queensland Government and Australian Government guidance.

Personal information is not disclosed to, or processed in, a public or open AI domain.

People remain responsible for decisions

Where AI is used to support our work:

  • WorkCover remains accountable for decisions, actions, and outcomes.
  • WorkCover does not use AI to generate new personal information by drawing inferences from existing information. AI-generated outputs are always reviewed, verified, and amended by authorised employees before use.
  • Safeguards are put in place to protect privacy, confidentiality, and security.

AI supports our people. It does not make decisions for our customers

WorkCover does not use AI to make decisions about workers, employers, claims, entitlements, or other customer outcomes.

AI is used only to support approved business activities such as information analysis, research, summarisation, drafting, and administrative activities. All decisions remain the responsibility of authorised WorkCover employees.

Building trust through responsible use

As AI continues to evolve, we’ll regularly review and update our approach to ensure AI is used safely, responsibly, transparently while maintaining the trust and confidence of our customers and the community.
