Claims and payments
Support for when life gets tough
When life gets hard – whether with financial stress, health concerns or personal struggles – there’s help and support available.
If you’re a worker, you should
- See your doctor or go to the hospital immediately for treatment.
- Get a work capacity certificate from your treating doctor.
- Tell your employer what happened and give them your certificate.
- Lodge your claim with us. We’ll also need a copy of your work capacity certificate – we can only cover compensation payments from the date you’re first seen by a doctor.
- Start rehabilitation as soon as you can – if your claim is accepted, your employer must support your recovery.
If you’re an employer, you should
Contact your worker as soon as possible after their injury.
Report the injury to us if it may be eligible for compensation. You should report the injury within 8 business days of becoming aware of it. Reporting the injury is not the same as making a claim for workers’ compensation.
Have your worker’s wage information ready – we may ask for this when we’re reviewing their claim.
Start planning your worker’s return to work with them.
Reporting the injury to us
You need to report any work-related injury to us that may be eligible for compensation. You still need to report the injury even if you don’t agree that compensation should be paid.
What you need to tell us
You need to give us some basic details about your worker and what happened:
- your worker’s full name, date of birth, and personal contact information
- your policy number – if you’re unsure, provide your business name, ABN or ACN
- the type of injury
- how and when it happened.
How to report the injury
To submit the report, you can:
- call us on 1300 927 928
- complete the online form
- complete the approved form and send it to us using one of the methods on our contact page.
Lodging a claim for a worker
If you’re an employer, you can also lodge a claim with your worker.
You’ll need:
- a copy of their work capacity certificate
- their normal weekly earnings wage figures and working hours (if they’re taking time off work). We’ll also need the amount payable under their industrial agreement.
If a worker is too injured to make a claim themselves, another person can do it on their behalf.
