Critical injuries

Some work-related injuries are so serious that you need to go to hospital right away. These injuries often mean long hospital stays, several surgeries or ongoing medical care. We’re here to support you.

Support for when life gets tough

When life gets hard – whether with financial stress, health concerns or personal struggles – there’s help and support available.

What’s a critical injury

A critical injury is a very serious injury.

These can include, but aren’t limited to:

  • crush injuries with broken bones and damage to internal organs
  • spinal cord injuries
  • traumatic brain injuries
  • full thickness burns on more than 30% of the body
  • inhalation burns that cause permanent breathing damage
  • blindness
  • loss of a limb.

These injuries are often complex and life changing. They can be very challenging for you and your family.

Making a claim

If you or someone you care for has suffered a critical injury at work, you don’t have to go through it alone.

How we’ll support you

Our Critical Care team supports many workers with serious injuries. Their goal is to help you recover and, if possible, return to independent living.

If your claim is referred to this team, they will:

  • work closely with you and your family
  • stay in contact with your employer
  • coordinate care with your doctors and allied health providers
  • plan and manage your rehabilitation
  • support your return to work, if it’s safe and possible.

If your injury is serious enough to fall under the National Injury Insurance Scheme Queensland (NIISQ), we may work with NIISQ to help manage your claim.

Our team is experienced, caring and here to guide you through each step of your recovery.
