Finding a job and support to retrain

Learn about support to help you find a new job or retrain after a work‑related injury or illness.

Support for when life gets tough

When life gets hard – whether with financial stress, health concerns or personal struggles – there’s help and support available.

If you can’t return to your previous job

If you’re unable to go back to the role you had before your injury or illness, you might need to find another job or consider retraining.

We recommend registering with Centrelink and other employment service providers if you have not secured a new role or returned to work by the time your claim is finalised.

If you are still recovering, there may be options for you to work with a host employer

How to find another job

Our aim is to help you get back to work after a work-related injury or illness.

Returning to your previous job may not be possible by the time your claim with us ends.

If you can’t return to your old job, you can start your job search before your claim ends.

We can support you during your job search. Please let us know if you secure a role through your own efforts.

Employment Connect Program

If your claim has ended, but you are not back at work because of your injury, our Employment Connect may help you return to work.

The program can help increase your chances of getting a new job and returning to normal life.

The program may include:

  • support from consultants specialising in return-to-work
  • funding for courses to help you upskill
  • job preparation, such as resume writing and interview training.

How to access the program

We will discuss the program with you when your claim ends to see if it is suitable for you.

Services may be tailored to your individual needs and goals.

Taking part is optional and can support your job search.

We will support you to build independence throughout the program.

We may help you with training or learning new skills.

Learning new skills may help you stay with your current employer or improve your chances of getting a new job.

Training we may pay for

We may pay for job training based on:
