Recovery and return to work
Support for when life gets tough
When life gets hard – whether with financial stress, health concerns or personal struggles – there’s help and support available.
Your My Recovery Plan
Getting back to work and normal life works best when you are involved in the planning early.
We’ll work with you, your employer and your treatment providers to create your rehabilitation and return-to-work plan. This is called your My Recovery Plan.
The plan:
- turns your goals into small steps you can follow to support your recovery
- explains who is involved in your recovery, and
- how they will work together to support your recovery and return to work.
It gives you structure, support and direction, so you can feel confident and in control.
The My Recovery Plan is part of our accredited rehabilitation and return to work program.
Communicating with your employer
Your employer should contact you soon after your injury to support you.
If you haven’t heard from them yet, you may wish to give them a call or visit your workplace.
Having open and honest communication with your employer really helps.
How we create the plan with you
We will work with you, your employer and your doctor to create your My Recovery Plan.
We’ll also support you and help manage the plan as you recover, updating it as your needs, treatment or work capacity change.
We’ll do this in a person‑centred way, which means your plan is made to suit your needs and your situation.

- diagnosis

You can ask us for a copy of your plan at any time during your claim.
Planning your return to work
By law, your employer must help plan your return to work and offer suitable duties unless the duties can’t be provided.
When you’re ready to return to work, we will make a separate plan with you and your employer called a suitable duties plan.
This plan explains what tasks you can do, your work hours and days of work.
It is based on advice from your doctor.
